Johnson, Jerome, Lecque throw out first pitch at D-backs’ Suns Night

PHOENIX — Everyone knew what was on the line.

When Phoenix Suns rookies Cameron Johnson, Ty Jerome and Jalen Lecque arrived at Chase Field Tuesday in their own custom Arizona Diamondbacks jerseys, all of them were thinking it.

Do not be like 50 Cent.

Forever immortalized for one of the worst first pitches in history, the rapper became the gold standard for what not to do in the situation the three rookies would soon find themselves in as a part of Suns Night at the ballpark.

There was some light banter between the trio as they waited on the dirt in front of the D-backs dugout for their moment to basically not screw things up.

All three took chances to throw the ball around, including Johnson with one of his brothers.

Johnson was even chirping Jerome occasionally, trying to get in his head about his throwing form.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo stopped by to hand out some pointers before they went out to throw.

When the time arrived, it was a rather anti-climactic moment that turned into just three athletic and tall guys throwing a baseball to three other dudes with gloves.

No one messed up, with Lecque’s throw maybe being a bit high, and there was a strong sense of relief afterward.

Overall, it was a cool moment for three young men at the start of a journey they’ve dreamed about since they were kids. And they did not become like 50 Cent in the process.
