Report: Suns made ‘concrete’ trade offer to Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga

The Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings have made “concrete offers” to the Golden State Warriors for restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Warriors, according to Charania, have not been interested in any of Phoenix’s or Sacramento’s sign-and-trade offers.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro confirmed that the Suns have held discussions about Kuminga but are aware that the path toward finding a trade could be a long shot.

Charania, who said he spoke to Kuminga on Thursday, added that the forward is remaining patient and not interested in what Golden State is currently offering him as a free agent. Kuminga is considering sign-and-trade options if outside teams can guarantee him significant minutes and a starting-caliber role.

Phoenix and Sacramento, depending on what they would trade to the Warriors, likely could offer such a role.

Charania adds, however, that the “staring contest” could drag out with the start of the season far off and the free-agent money relatively dried up in the past three weeks.

Suns’ interest in Jonathan Kuminga does not mean a trade is likely

NBA insider Jake Fischer first reported last week that the Suns had spoken with Golden State and Kuminga’s camp this month about acquiring him.

The Warriors, according to Fischer, had wanted compensation in any sign-and-trade to include a first-round pick.

Phoenix is now out of apron territory and has contracts it can combine to add Kuminga, but it is not known how much Golden State would have interest in players such as Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale or Nick Richards.

Still only 22 years old, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season.

Fischer reported he could be seeking $25 million per year on his next deal.
