Suns’ Kevin Durant out at least a week with ankle injury, per report

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant left Sunday’s matchup with the Houston Rockets after he stepped on Jabari Smith Jr.’s foot and will miss at least a week before being reevaluated, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.

Durant will miss at least the Suns’ road trip through Milwaukee on Tuesday, Boston on Friday and New York on Sunday, according to Charania.

Durant did not return after suffering the injury Sunday and underwent an MRI on Monday, head coach Mike Budenholzer said. Budenholzer already ruled Durant out for the start of the road trip.

Phoenix was trailing Houston 92-57 at the time of the injury, and he was quickly ruled out for the contest. It was deemed a left ankle sprain.

Durant had 11 points (5-for-11 shooting), seven rebounds and one turnover in 23 minutes (-27).

He was involved in an earlier mix-up in the game that saw Dillon Brooks get ejected after the two were tangled up on another drive. Durant received a technical foul for his part in the scuffle.

Durant missed three games in early February and three games in early December for ankle injuries. Aside from those short stretches sidelined, Durant has played in 52 straight games.

Phoenix is off on Monday and next plays the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday to begin a three-game east coast road trip. The Suns will then play their final three home games before ending the season at the Sacramento Kings on April 13.

They entered Sunday one game out of the play-in.
