Kevin Durant trade expands to NBA-record 7 teams, Suns add Brooks, Green, 2nd-round pick

The Phoenix Suns’ trade of 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets has officially expanded to involve an NBA-record seven teams.

On Sunday, ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania on X said that the Suns will receive Atlanta Hawks guard Daeqwon Plowden in addition to the deal’s previously reported assets, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 2025 No. 10 draft pick via the Rockets and five second-round draft picks. The Rockets, on behalf of the Suns, selected Duke center Khaman Maluach with the No. 10 pick.

In a corresponding move, the team announced that Plowden will be waived.

The Suns used four of the second-round picks to acquire Rasheer Fleming at No. 31 and Koby Brea at No. 41, retaining a 2026 second rounder, according to the team.

Sunday was the first day the NBA teams can sign free agents and make trades official.

Durant responded to the cemented move on X.

“I truly believe this NBA is one big community. Much love to Arizona,” Durant said.

How Kevin Durant trade was reported

The Athletic’s Fred Katz first reported Wednesday that the Rockets and Suns were working on expanding the trade that to involve an NBA-record number of teams.

Katz added that the Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angels Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are involved in trade discussions. As part of the trade, the Hawks would send Clint Capela to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade.

NBA reporter Jake Fischer reported on Thursday, that seven teams have agreed in principle to the trade. NBA correspondent Marc Stein backed up the report as well.

The previous record for most teams involved in a trade in NBA history was in 2024 when the Warriors traded Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that involved six teams.
