Dillon Brooks has become a polarizing figure across the NBA landscape and a fan favorite at each stop along his career. He’s also developed his Dillon the Villain persona, pestering opposing teams’ stars and enraging opposing fan bases.
So, which teams have left an impact on the villain himself, and who’s he looking forward to facing?
“Toronto, Memphis, Houston, Golden State, and now Philly,” Brooks told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo Friday. “(The) Lakers are always forever circled. That’s just between me and the fans.”
Brooks grew up in Ontario, Canada, as a die-hard Raptors fan and represents Team Canada. Playing his childhood team will always be a game circled on the calendar. The Suns will travel to Toronto on Jan. 13, and the Raptors will come to Phoenix on March 28.
The Suns forward played the first six years of his career with the Grizzlies and earned a spot on the NBA’s All-Defensive team in the 2022-23 season. Phoenix will play Memphis four times.
Brooks then spent two years with the Rockets before being traded to the Suns as part of the Kevin Durant deal. The two teams will face each other twice in November and once in February.
The veteran is always going to have beef with the Warriors thanks to his ongoing rivalry with their stars. The Suns will play the Warriors twice in the first five games of the year and then twice for the rest of the season.
“There’s just history,” Brooks said. “Steph (Curry), Draymond (Green), and now Jimmy (Butler). That’s just history right there.”
And now, you can add the 76ers to the list, who signed LeBron James this offseason. With the 76ers being in the Eastern Conference, they’ll face Phoenix just twice. But Brooks said that’ll just add to the ammunition and anticipation for when they do play.
“I play well in Philly,” Brooks said. “I like Philly. I like playing in Philly.”
Dillon the Villain will always enjoy trolling Lakers fans, though, even when James isn’t there anymore. The Suns and Lakers will play four times this season.
