Report: Phoenix a likely destination for former Nugget Jordan McRae

Phoenix could reportedly be a landing spot for a recently bought out guard/forward.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Phoenix Suns are a “likely destination” for former Denver Nugget Jordan McRae.

Yahoo Sports Senior NBA Insider Chris Haynes said that the Suns intend to put in a waiver claim on McRae.

This season, McRae has played for both the Nuggets and the Washington Wizards. In 29 games (four starts), he averaged 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

With the Suns waiving Tyler Johnson and deciding against signing Jonah Bolden to a second 10-day contract, Phoenix has the room to add McRae.

It would be a return to the Valley for McRae, who suited up for the Suns during the 2015-16 season.

McRae played just seven games with the Suns that year, signing two 10-day contracts with the team after spending time in the G League. He averaged 5.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 11.7 minutes per game for Phoenix. He was later assigned to the Bakersfield Jam. He also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, playing in 15 games (one start).

While McRae’s statline doesn’t jump off the page, the guard/forward has shown the ability to put the ball in the basket, recording three or more games of at least 29 points this season.

With Kelly Oubre Jr. on the shelf for the foreseeable future due to injury, McRae’s scoring could come in handy for a Suns team looking to add another scoring threat behind Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton.
