Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo projected as 4th-round pick by multiple draft analysts

Arizona State’s All-American star running back Cam Skattebo ran his much-anticipated 40-yard dash in front of NFL scouts inside the Verde Dickey Dome in Tempe on Thursday afternoon.

His reported 4.65-second mark was another check off his NFL Draft prep to-do list.

ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller’s projection on Cam Skattebo

Miller released his latest seven-round mock draft on March 27, and projected the former Sun Devils running back to land in the fourth round. Skattebo was the seventh running back off the board, going 123rd overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The running backs selected ahead of Skattebo in Miller’s mock draft were:

– Ashton Jeanty: 10th pick, Chicago Bears

– Omarion Hampton: 22nd pick, L.A. Chargers

– TreVeyon Henderson: 37th pick, Las Vegas Raiders

– Kaleb Johnson: 44th pick, Dallas Cowboys

– Quinshon Judkins: 51st pick, Denver Broncos

– Dylan Sampson: 67th pick, Cleveland Browns

A run-heavy team like the Steelers, who have ranked in the top 10 in rushing attempts over the past four seasons, is looking to draft a replacement for Najee Harris. Harris left Pittsburgh to join the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency after posting four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Currently, the Steelers’ top three running backs are Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell and Cordarrelle Patterson. Former Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Ward is also rostered.

NFL’s Chad Reuter has Skattebo as 10th RB selected

Reuter’s mock draft differed from Miller’s, with nine running backs selected ahead of Skattebo. However, Reuter projected Skattebo to be drafted one pick higher at 122nd overall to the Denver Broncos.

Those ahead of Skattebo were:

– Ashton Jeanty: 6th pick, Las Vegas Raiders

– Omarion Hampton: 21st pick, Pittsburgh Steelers

– TreVeyon Henderson: 44th pick, Dallas Cowboys

– Quinshon Judkins: 55th pick, LA Chargers

– Jaydon Blue: 64th pick, Philadelphia Eagles

– Kaleb Johnson: 67th pick, Cleveland Browns

– Trevor Etienne: 77th pick, New England Patriots

– Dylan Sampson: 100th pick, San Francisco 49ers

– RJ Harvey: 112th pick, New Orleans Saints

Denver, which finished 16th in total rushing yards last season (1,908), could use some help at running back. No Broncos rusher surpassed 513 yards last year and the team lost leading rusher Javonte Williams to the Cowboys in free agency.

Denver’s current top three backs are Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, and Tyler Badie.

Recapping Cam Skattebo’s senior season at Arizona State

Skattebo’s final college season was nothing short of spectacular. He was named a First-Team All-American and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Skattebo was the only player in the nation to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards, making him one of college football’s best dual-threat running backs.

His remarkable season earned him the recognition of being ranked the fourth-best college football player of the year, according to PFF earlier this offseason.
