ASU’s Sam Leavitt named Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt was named the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year as the All-Conference preseason teams were announced Monday.

Joining Leavitt on the preseason all-conference teams are wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, offensive lineman Ben Coleman, defensive lineman C.J. Fite and safety Xavion Alford.

No other Big 12 team had more players make the preseason all-conference teams.

Leavitt is coming off a stellar first season with the Kenny Dillingham-led program behind 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns to six interceptions on 61.7% passing across 12 games played.

He’s expected to be leaned on even more this season following the departure of running back Cam Skattebo, who was picked in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft this past April.

“Cam was a great player, that’s my guy,” Leavitt told reporters in May following a youth camp in Chandler. “That’s gonna be an area that we’re gonna have to figure out what to do with it, but we’re just gonna be a different team.

“We’re not gonna run the ball every single time on first and second down, and we’re just going to go in more quick-game stuff and everything to do with that. Obviously, I’m not gonna go into the details, not trying to give no hints to anybody else, but I’m not too worried about it.”

While Arizona State had five representatives, Arizona had none.
