Portland transfer point guard Joel Foxwell committed to ASU men's basketball following a First Team All-WCC freshman campaign.

Portland transfer point guard Joel Foxwell committed to Arizona State men’s basketball on Sunday following a First Team All-WCC freshman campaign, 247 Sports’ Travis Branham first reported.
Foxwell’s 6.3 assists per game led all freshmen in the country, ranked second among underclassmen and 13th overall. He was the No. 20 point guard in the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports.
The 6-foot-1 Foxwell is the latest example of Australian players recruited by new head coach Randy Bennett and associate head coach David Patrick, the latter of whom grew up in Melbourne.
Patty Mills (Saint Mary’s 2007-09) is the biggest standout in that lineage, and wing Marcus Vaughns (LSU transfer) marked the first player in that direction in the Bennett era at ASU.
Foxwell previously grew up in Melbourne and played for Melbourne United in the NBL, appearing for a total of 36 minutes across eight games in 2024-25 with the professional club.
He added 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game to go with his distributing, albeit with a 31.9% 3-point shot (6.4 attempts per game) that could use some work. He had six games with double-digit assists and a standout performance with 27 points and eight assists in a win against Gonzaga.
Foxwell projects as ASU’s starting point guard and will have big shoes to fill, replacing 2025-26 standout Moe Odum, who dished out 187 assists (fourth in program history for a single season).
He joins fellow WCC addition Emmanuel Innocenti (Gonzaga), along with Vaughns and center Nate Garcia (Cal Baptist), as part of Bennett’s first transfer haul.
ASU remains in the hunt for Saint Mary’s transfer forward Paulius Murauskas (No. 9 overall in portal).

So hold on here, ASU targeted a WCC coach to coach in the Big 12, gave him a whole bunch of money and perks, and his portal signee is a kid from … (drum roll)… U of Portland???
So basically, we live in the 5th largest city in the US, and we hired some old fart so that he can comfortably retire in Phoenix while he recruits at-best Patty-Mills-type players from Australia??? How about you go after kids in your own backyard, being that you are in the 5th largest US city? And if you really want to get “daring,” So Cal is a simple 5-hour drive away … or do you need to justify the use of that private jet by vacationing on across-the-world recruitment trips?
By the way, who the f*** is the AD? Rossini. Who the f*** is Rossini? Let’s see: Rossini tried out as a walk-on catcher under Murphy. While he didn’t make the ASU baseball team, he did “play basketball for a middle school team with one of his best friends.” So who the f*** hired Rossini? Digging deeper, ahhh haaa — Rossini was a hand-picked hire of none other than Michael “the maggot” c***-s****** Crow. Now THAT actually makes sense because ANYONE who has had any familiarity with that piece of s*** c***-s****** Crow will tell you that Crow is and always has been one of the worst, most-hated, despicable humans on the planet.
And yet, here is U of A in lil ol’ po-dunk Tucson, just 2 hours South of Phoenix metro extending one of the top basketball coaches in the country while ASU hires a geriatric WCC depends-undergarments dude to aimlessly fly around on their private jet. And yet we rhetorically wonder why ASU continues to be irrelevant. 🐦⬛
Foxwell is the 102 rated player in the Transfer Portal, so while this article makes him out to be a star, don't believe the hype, he's more someone who has potential.
ASU's recruiting success will largely be determined by whether Bennett can convince Paulius Murauskas to come to ASU. That he wasn't signed right out of the gate, IMHO, doesn't portend well for how this story will conclude.
The fact that Bennett STILL HAS NOT MADE A PUBLIC APPEARANCE AND DOESN"T APPEAR TO BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN RECRUITING IS A HUGE NEGATIVE FOR ASU. Makes me start to wonder if Bennett took this job to be near family because health issues are going to end Bennett's coaching career.
Big 12 is a lot different than the WCC. At least these kind of guys sholud stick around for a couple years... Build a program. Not a bad approach.
