Former 5-star edge Anthony Lucas transfers to USC over Arizona State

Former Texas A&M edge Anthony Lucas announced on Wednesday that he will be transferring to the USC Trojans.

Lucas is a 6-foot-6, 290-pound Valley native who graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale as the No. 1 player at his position in the state of Arizona in 2022.

He was also a five-star prospect according to 247 Sports and a four-star recruit per Rivals and ESPN while being an Under Armour All-American.

In one season at Texas A&M, Lucas racked up 10 tackles with one tackle for loss in seven games played as a true freshman for head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Lucas was considering ASU in his final schools and would have been both the highest-ranked player to transfer to Arizona State via the portal since it opened on Dec. 5, as well as the highest touted local athlete to come home and play for Kenny Dillingham.

The new head coach of ASU, who played, graduated and coached at Chaparral, has made his goal of acquiring “local flavor” of paramount importance since he took over on Nov. 27.

Dillingham has already convinced the likes of former Oregon four-star offensive tackle Bram Walden to come back home and transfer to Arizona State to once again play for new Sun Devils tight ends coach Jason Mohns, who coached Walden while at the helm of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.
