Brendan Sorsby and Texas Tech parting ways, QB to enter NFL Supplemental Draft

One week after a judge granted Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby an injunction in his eligibility case, the quarterback and the Red Raiders are parting ways, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported.

Sorsby plans to apply for the NFL Supplemental Draft, which will happen later this summer.

Texas Tech superbooster Cody Campbell released a statement arguing the Red Raiders “acted with the utmost integrity in following all NCAA protocol, provided complete transparency and cooperated with them in every possible way. The truth is, contrary to the public narrative, Texas Tech’s only objectives have been to protect the well-being and best interest of one of our new students, his fellow student-athletes, our institution and our community.”

Sorsby, who transferred from Cincinnati this spring for a reported $5 million, entered into a Goodyear, Arizona rehabilitation program in late April (that he has since completed) after his sports gambling activity — having placed thousands of bets, including on his own team while redshirting at Indiana — came to light.

The NCAA ruled he would be ineligible, but Sorsby’s camp pursued an appeal in court.

A Lubbock County judge granted Sorsby the injunction last Monday, ruling that the NCAA could not prevent him from participating in the 2026 season and that Sorsby’s only punishment would be a two-game suspension.

Multiple athletic directors made statements in strong opposition. Some schools, such as Georgia, Nebraska and Michigan, planned to cancel matchups with Texas Tech across all sports and not schedule the Red Raiders in the future.

ASU is scheduled to play at Texas Tech on Oct. 17, with the Arizona Wildcats making the trip to Lubbock two weeks later.

Will Hammond, who started last season’s matchup against ASU, is in line as the Red Raiders’ starting quarterback this season. He is coming off a torn ACL suffered on Oct. 25 against Oklahoma State, one week after Texas Tech’s loss to the Sun Devils.
