Arizona State’s most significant losses from their Big 12 title season in 2024 came at running back, center and nickel.

Cam Skattebo, Leif Fautanu and Shamari Simmons ran out of college eligibility, and some more clarity as to which players might replace them was revealed in ASU football’s first depth chart for 2025’s season opener against Northern Arizona.

Reminder: This is initial, created by the Sun Devil Athletics communications staff and an extended depth chart — extended as in there are more than 11 starters for both offense and defense.

At running back, with two starters listed, it’s returnees Kyson Brown and Raleek Brown up first, with Army transfer Kanye Udoh and freshman Demarius Robinson listed as backups at each slot.

Last year’s starting left guard, Ben Coleman, was already named the starting center despite Iowa State transfer Wade Helton getting some late camp practice with the first team.

At nickelback replacing Simmons, it’s returnee Montana Warren and Pursue transfer Kyndrich Breedlove listed as “OR” options.

Sam Leavitt’s top targets named on 1st official ASU depth chart of 2025

While a healthy Jordyn Tyson gives ASU a clear top option in the passing game, the expectations for quarterback Sam Leavitt only grow if one or two players stand out after the WR1.

ASU listed 14 starting options on offense, including two tight ends, two running backs and four wide receivers.

Listed as starters at wideout are senior Malik McClain, Alabama transfer Jaren Hamilton and Fresno State transfer Jalen Moss. Hamilton and Moss take the spots occupied by Xavier Guillory and Melquan Stovall a year ago.

At tight end, Chamon Metayer is the No. 1 option with Khamari Anderson and Cameron Harpole listed as “ORs” at the other starter slot. True Freshman A.J. Ia is a backup.

Defense lists some optionality, plus Sparky and Devil positions

The Sun Devils’ initial depth chart for the season lists 13 defensive positions, with a five-man defensive front of two tackles, two ends and a Sparky position. At Sparky, returnees Justin Wodtly and Elijah O’Neal are listed as ORs.

ASU lists two linebacker spots with options of ORs: Keyshaun Elliott OR Tate Romney, then Jordan Crook OR Zyrus Fiaseu.

At the Devil safety slot, Washington State transfer Boogie Wilson is listed as a starter.

Corner (Keith Abney II and Javan Robinson) and safety (Xavion Alford and Myles Rowser) are locked down by experienced returnees.

Which transfers new to Arizona State are listed as starters?

Left guard: Jimeto Obigbo (Texas State)

Wide receiver: Moss (Fresno State) and Hamilton (Alabama)

Devil: Wilson (Washington State)

Kicker: Jesus Gomez (Eastern Michigan)

Long snapper: Cade Davis (Marshall) OR Tyler Wigglesworth (returnee)

Kick and punt returner: Moss (Fresno State) OR Raleek Brown (returnee)
