In-state 2027 WR Kingston Anetema commits to ASU after standout 7-on-7 showing

Arizona State football picked up a 2027 commitment on Saturday from three-star Valley athlete Kingston Anetema, who will focus on playing receiver in college.

He caught the eye of wide receivers coach Hines Ward on Thursday at a 7-on-7 showcase in Tempe and was offered by Ward following the full day’s worth of games.

“He’s a great dude and having a chance to learn from him is a dream come true,” Anetema told Arizona Sports. “He harps on accountability and sticking to great habits.”

Anetema is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds as the 41st-ranked 2027 Arizona prospect, per 247 Sports. He has played both ways, lining up at defensive back in addition to wideout.

“I feel like I was able to show off my strong hands and the ability to make plays in the clutch moments of the game,” Anetema said of the skills he showcased on Thursday. “They came over and watched my first game … then we kept advancing and I kept making those same plays consistently and they offered me.”

Anetema picked ASU out of a final three that also included Boise State and Oregon State.

He just arrived to the state last fall, as he transferred to Mesa High School for his junior season along with his brother, three-star quarterback Kane Anetema, and tight end Caleb Tafua from Bishop Montgomery High School in California.

After a waiting period that allowed eligibility to clear, the Anetema brothers and Tafua helped Mesa (2-3 ahead of the trio being cleared) to a 5-2 finish to its season. The only two losses were to eventual Open Division champion Basha by eight points and in the 6A quarterfinals to Centennial by two.

Anetema caught 39 passes for 471 yards and five touchdowns in the seven contests, per MaxPreps.

He added 26 tackles, two for a loss, two interceptions and five passes defensed at DB.

Anetema is the third wide receiver in ASU’s fold for 2027, joining four-star Nico Bland (No. 40 WR) and three-star Tycen Johnson (No. 80 WR).
