ASU’s Reed Harris sips tea after breakthrough TD, Jaren Hamilton adds kick return TD

When in London, right?

Reed Harris caught a 25-yard touchdown to give Arizona State a massive breakthrough touchdown and the lead at half despite the Sun Devils being stuck in their own way on offense for much of the opening 30 minutes against Kansas.

Harris sipped from a mock cup of English tea — with the pinky out, of course — to celebrate the score and slid on his knees to the sideline to fit the Wembley Stadium soccer environment.

The connection to make it 10-7 came after Cutter Boley struggled to find receivers down field up to that point, as the quarterback also took two sacks.

The touchdown turned momentum around for ASU, as it then began the second half with a kick return touchdown from Jaren Hamilton, whose nickname of “Turbo” was on full display.

Penalties were back-breaking in the first half, including a holding call against James Giggey that negated a fourth-down conversion and the ensuing punt was returned for the Jayhawks’ only touchdown of the half.

Giggey, who also had a false start to begin ASU’s second drive of the game, received extra snaps after starting tight end Khamari Anderson went down with an apparent left leg injury after ASU’s second offensive play of the game.

The Sun Devils also had a 15-yard completion to Harris on third-and-7 called back due to an illegal formation that made it third-and-12 that ASU did not convert.

Even with the yards lost on penalties, Harris was up to 43 yards and the touchdown on three catches by halftime.

His Kansas counterpart, Nik McMillan, entered the game one spot behind Harris on the Big 12 receiving yards leaderboard. ASU’s defense held McMillan to 12 yards on two catches in the half.
