4-star forward Carson Crawford commits to ASU in 2027 class

Arizona State men’s basketball picked up its first 2027 commit on Wednesday as four-star forward Carson Crawford committed to play for Randy Bennett’s squad.

The 6-foot-6 Crawford is the No. 50 player in the class, per 247 Sports’ composite ranking, including No. 13 among small forwards.

After taking an official visit to Tempe over the weekend, Crawford chose ASU over a final five that also included Florida State, Providence, Ole Miss and Syracuse, all before Bennett and his new staff coached a game for the Sun Devils.

The commit is the second high school addition for Bennett at ASU after flipping JRob Croy from Saint Mary’s ahead of the 2026 season.

Crawford notably was a member of the Florida Rebels AAU club, which won the 2026 Peach Jam tournament, widely considered to be the top grassroots basketball competition. He averaged 7.9 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 55% en route to the title.

In planning for the “5 for 5” rule that’s now been installed at the college level, giving student-athletes five years to play five seasons, ASU’s 2026-27 roster does not include any player whose eligibility will be exhausted — pending Moe Odum’s now-unlikely return.

With one roster spot open entering the season without Odum, the roster spots for 2027-28 are quickly filling up. The transfer portal following the upcoming season will almost certainly play a role as well.
