Former Arizona State basketball standout Moe Odum has entered the transfer portal after getting cleared by a judge who ruled in favor of dozens of men’s and women’s basketball players in their eligibility case against the NCAA, according to On3.com and Sun Devil Source’s Chris Karpman.
Odum cannot, however, come back to ASU due to a Big 12 rule that deems players who signed professional contracts ineligible. ASU athletic director Graham Rossini previously cited the contract that Odum signed with a pro club based in Kosovo as an obstacle to a potential reunion.
The point guard is among players to be awarded eligibility through litigation after the NCAA tried to bar players who began their college careers in the 2022-23 school year from a fifth season that all student-athletes going forward are granted.
Odum, who is still waiting on a follow-up hearing on Oct. 29, will have to pick another conference to play in.
Odum was ASU’s leader in points, assists and steals per game last season, as well as 3-point shooting:
- 16.4 points
- 5.7 assists
- 1.4 steals
- 37.7% on 7.2 3s per game
He had previously spent time working with the new-look Sun Devils now led by head coach Randy Bennett during the summer.
ASU has an exhibition game on Sunday at New Mexico before starting the regular season on Nov. 2 against East Tennessee State.
