TEMPE — Arizona State starting center Tana Alo-Tupuola was out for Saturday’s 30-12 win against Hawaii amid a personal situation.

“He’s out right now for personal reasons. I don’t really have an update,” head coach Kenny Dillingham said postgame. “He’s just out for personal reasons right now. Wasn’t with the team this week. Like I said, he’s out for personal reasons and we’ll see what happens moving forward with him.”

Alo-Tupuola’s absence throughout the week had not been explained during the week, as he was coming off playing all 75 center snaps the previous week against Baylor.

He has been one of ASU’s most reliable offensive linemen to start the season, and his snapping has been consistent both in games and practices since he transferred from Georgia Tech.

Makua Pule got the start with Wade Helton, who was a game-time decision, not quite ready to return from an ankle injury. The pair split reps in practice throughout the week.

Pule had the second-most snaps at center last year among Sun Devils who returned the year (178) behind only Helton (422). Helton was ASU’s starting right guard for the first two games of the season.

Pule played all 65 center snaps on Saturday and allowed one pressure.
