2nd year for ASU’s Dustin Pedroia, 12 newcomers on Baseball Hall of Fame ballot

Baseball's 2026 Hall of Fame ballot has been revealed, with former Sun Devil Dustin Pedroia looking to build upon his vote total last year.

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America 2026 Hall of Fame ballot was released on Monday with 12 first-time players and 15 returning players.

It will be the second year of eligibility for Arizona State alum Dustin Pedroia.

Pedroia previously received 11.9% of votes (47). Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia and Felix Hernández were the only other first-time players to receive at least 5% of the vote last year. Suzuki and Sabathia were both inducted.

The second year will be critical to see what Pedroia’s trajectory looks like. He can be on the ballot for up to 10 years and needs to reach 75% of votes in order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

While his professional career was cut short due to a left knee injury, Pedroia has a solid Hall of Fame case. He never had a batting average below .278 in seasons with at least 100 plate appearances and acquired plenty of hardware.

In 14 seasons with the Red Sox, he was a four-time All Star, four-time Gold Glove winner, three-time World Series Champion, Rookie of the Year in 2007 and American League MVP in 2008.

In three seasons with the Sun Devils from 2002-04, the then-shortstop hit .384 with a 1.010 OPS. He was named First-Team All Pac-10 each year and was named a finalist for the Golden Spikes award in 2004.
