Lincoln Kuehne among 3 Sun Devils taken in the 2026 NHL Draft

Arizona State hockey defenseman Lincoln Kuehne was one of the three Sun Devils selected in the 2026 NHL Draft on Saturday.

The New York Islanders took the 6-foot-1, 201-pound skater from Fargo, North Dakota, in the fourth round with pick No. 109.

In 28 games with the Sun Devils as a freshman last season, he scored one goal and recorded one assist with three blocked shots. He is set to begin his sophomore season at ASU this fall.

Players selected can retain their college eligibility by not signing an entry-level NHL contract or signing with professional representation. The team that selects them retains the prospects’ rights when they turn pro.

Kuehne previously played for the United States National Team Development Program. He won a bronze medal with the U.S. National Team at the U18 Men’s World Championship in 2025.

Landon Hafele selected in 6th round

Center Landon Hafele was the second Sun Devil taken in the draft, going to the Winnipeg Jets in the sixth round with pick No. 167.

The 6-foot, 187-pound forward from Fairbanks, Alaska, is slated to begin his freshman season at ASU this fall.

Hafele also previously played for the U.S. National Team Development Program. He competed in four international tournaments, where he was a member of the U.S. 2024 U17 Five Nations Tournament squad that won the gold medal.

He also played for the Green Bay Gamblers during the 2025-26 season in the United States Hockey League. In 52 games, he scored 15 goals and registered 27 assists, totaling 42 points.

Jonas Woo rounds out Sun Devils selected in NHL Draft

Defenseman Jonas Woo was the third and final Sun Devil selected in the draft, going to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the sixth round with pick No. 185.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound 19-year-old out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is another incoming freshman for the Sun Devils.

Woo previously played in the Western Hockey League for five seasons with the Winnipeg Ice, Wenatchee Wild and Medicine Hat Tigers. In 56 games with the Tigers last season, Woo set the single-season franchise record for points by a defenseman with 86 (29 goals, 57 assists).

The 2026 draft marked the second straight year in which Arizona State saw three players taken. Cullen Potter (first round, Calgary Flames), Ben Kevan (second round, New Jersey Devils) and Justin Kipkie (fifth round, Minnesota Wild) were taken in last year’s draft.
