Koa Peat registers 11 rebounds, USA U19 basketball beats Canada in FIBA quarterfinals

Arizona commit Koa Peat registered a team-high 11 rebounds as the United States U19 World Cup team advanced to the semifinals after a 108-102 win versus Canada on Friday.

After a quality offensive performance with 17 points on Wednesday in the round of 16, Peat didn’t have much of an offensive impact with just seven points, shooting 3 of 13 from the field with an assist in just under 20 minutes played. Peat did not attempt a 3-pointer during Friday’s game.

Despite the lack of offense on Friday, Peat has averaged 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game this tournament.

Leading the way for the U.S. team was AJ Dybantsa who led the team in scoring with 22 points and added four rebounds and two assists. Mikel Brown Jr. also had a quality performance for the U.S., scoring 20 points with a team-high eight assists and two rebounds.

With the win on Friday, the U.S. improved to 7-1 all-time against Canada in U19 action. The U.S. joined Greece (1995) as the only teams in U19 history to score 100 points or more in four straight games, per USA Basketball communications.

The U.S. will play New Zealand on Saturday.
