Arizona’s Noah Fifita shares Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week with ASU’s Jeff Sims

Jeff Sims and Noah Fifita were named co-offensive players of the week in the Big 12 for their performances in Week 10.

Arizona State’s and Arizona’s starting quarterbacks, Jeff Sims and Noah Fifita, will share the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honor, the conference announced Monday.

Now in the starting role with Sam Leavitt’s season-ending surgery, Sims shined with his arm and his legs in the team’s 24-19 victory over Iowa State. He threw for 177 yards and a touchdown and set the ASU record for quarterback rushing yards in a game with 228.

Fifita, meanwhile, was the leading force behind Arizona’s dominant 52-17 win over Colorado. With only 19 passing attempts, Fifita threw for 213 yards and four touchdowns, two of which were over fifty yards.

Saturday was also Fifita’s second consecutive game without an interception. It was the third time he has thrown for four touchdowns this season, becoming only the sixth FBS player to have three such games this season.

Arizona State’s offensive line was also given the positional group award for the week. The group did not allow a sack while helping the Sun Devils amass 290 rushing yards, 88 of which came on a Sims touchdown run in the third quarter.

Sims’ performance also led him to be named the national college football player of the week by The Associated Press.

Arizona State heads into a Week 11 bye, while Arizona (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) will take on Kansas (5-4, 3-3) at home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MST.
