Minnesota-New Mexico set for Rate Bowl in Phoenix

Minnesota and New Mexico will play face off in the Rate Bowl at Chase Field later this month.

Minnesota and New Mexico will play each other in the Rate Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix, as was announced on Sunday.

The Rate Bowl will be played on Dec. 26 at 2:30 p.m. MST on ESPN. This will be the 16th time the game will be played at the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Gophers went 7-5, 5-4 in Big Ten play, while the Lobos went 9-3, 6-2 in the Mountain West this season. This will be the first time both teams have played each other in football.

This will the 36th edition of the game. Kansas State beat Rutgers 44-41 in last year’s edition of the game.

Minnesota, New Mexico’s history in the Rate Bowl

Minnesota are 1-3 in the bowl game with its most recent appearance in 2021 (then the Guaranteed Rate Bowl) where the Gophers beat the West Virginia Mountaineers, 18-6.

The Lobos will play in their first-ever Rate Bowl this year.

In other bowl games in Arizona, Fresno State will play Miami (Ohio) in The Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl, presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop at Casino Del Sol Stadium in Tucson on Dec. 27. State Farm Stadium will host the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl as part of the semifinals of the 2025 College Football Playoff on Jan. 8.

The history of the start time for this game is late night. Good that it's mid-afternoon this year.... not that the match up makes it must-see but at least it will still be played in daylight.
