Cardinals begin 1st concrete pour at new performance center in north Phoenix

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that work has begun on the first concrete pour for its new performance center in north Phoenix.

The Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Performance Center, located at the team’s facility near Scottsdale Road and the Loop 101 Pima Freeway, will open in summer 2028. The site will replace the longtime Tempe facility.

The performance center will feature three outdoor grass practice fields and a fieldhouse with an indoor turf field. Additional features of the facility include an expanded locker room, dining areas, meeting rooms, a player lounge and spaces for athletic training, sports medicine and strength and conditioning.

The Cardinals broke ground on the practice facility in February. The team purchased the parcel of land that spans 217 acres last year at a state land auction. Thirty of the acres will be used for the performance center and the team’s headquarters.

Along with a performance center, Dignity Health is planning to build a 300,000-square-foot medical campus at the site. The campus will feature several facilities, including a sports medicine institute and Barrow Neurological Institute services, imaging and outpatient surgery and more. Phase one of construction on the medical campus is set to begin in 2027.

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show Thursday that the construction on the facilities will be visible to drivers from Scottsdale Road and the Loop 101.

“It’s gonna be an exciting time for the Cardinals and a very visible building. (It will) have a huge impact on the area up there,” Bidwill said.
