The Arizona Cardinals replaced starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett with backup Gardner Minshew II during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cardinals trailed the Cowboys 17-3 late in the third quarter when the change was made.
Two plays into Minshew’s day, Arizona scored on a 63-yard touchdown run from Tyler Allgeier. Arizona scored another touchdown on its next drive, a Minshew five-yard pass to Allgeier.
Brissett completed 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards and an interception on Sunday, and Arizona went 0-for-2 in the red zone when he was in.
Rookie Carson Beck was inactive for Sunday’s game as the emergency third quarterback.
The Cardinals signed Minshew to a one-year deal last offseason with $5.1 million guaranteed. The eighth-year veteran was brought in to be Brissett’s backup.
Brissett negotiated a new contract for $15.5 million with incentives to be paid more like a starter. He has started every game this season.
Arizona drafted Beck in the third round of the NFL Draft, but he has yet to be active for a game.

About time. And surprise, he's better than jittery Jacoby.
Gardner has shown in a 1/2 of football he should start a few games, make Carson Beck the backup and let's just say enough is enough of Jacoby.
Thank god in heaven and all the arch angels, the day has arrived and you guys can finally shut up about how great Brisket has been in his 3-17 campaign with the cardinals.
Time to say bye bye to Brissette and roll with Beck next game with Minshew backing him up. Let’s see what Beck has.
