Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love ‘in the the next phase’ of recovery from ankle sprain

TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love is making steady progress in his recovery from a high ankle sprain suffered in a preseason loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the positive update, the rookie running back will not take part in Arizona’s joint practice with the Green Bay Packers or Friday’s preseason finale.

“He’s doing well, progressing well and kind of in the next phase of it,” LaFleur said Monday.

“He will not be on the field doing any sort of practice or anything like that right now,” the head coach added.

Love has not been present on the Tempe practice fields since going down with the injury, whether that be participating in practice or working off to the side with trainers.

He took in Saturday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys on the sideline along with plenty of Arizona’s starters.

While the end result of his lone preseason appearance wasn’t what fans wanted to see, Love impressed with his 14 touches against the Raiders.

He ran the rock 11 times for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards.

“He just seems so natural with the ball. He’s probably the most natural ball carrier that I’ve seen with my own two eyes,” wide receiver Michael Wilson said of Love last week. “He can cut off any foot at any time, spin move. It was really special to watch and that’s probably the worst he’s ever going to look in his career is that game.

“So, if that’s the worst he’s ever going to look in his career, that’s pretty dang good for us.”
