TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Beck left practice Thursday with back spasms, head coach Mike LaFleur said Friday.

The head coach added the issue is not long term, but he wanted to get Beck off the grass.

“Trying to throw the way these guys throw and you have a little bit of a back tweak, that’s what’s going on with him,” LaFleur said.

The injury development plus Arizona’s big win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, doused some of the ongoing chatter that Beck should be in the starting lineup sooner than later.

With Beck likely heading toward another inactive status against the Denver Broncos this week, emergency quarterback or injury-related, it’ll be Jacoby Brissett getting the starting nod and Gardner Minshew II backing him up.

And if Beck in fact misses the game with the injury, attention then turns to who would serve as the emergency QB.

The Cardinals did, however, try out quarterback Conner Bazelak last Tuesday. That was before Beck popped up on the injury report with the back issue the Friday before the Rams game. He could be a name to watch depending on Beck’s injury status heading into this weekend.
