Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck is an Arizona Cardinal. There were plenty of reactions to be had about the third-round pick.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck is an Arizona Cardinal after the franchise drafted him No. 65 overall (first pick of third round) in the 2026 NFL Draft.

He was among the QB prospects to make a top 30 pre-draft visit to Arizona and was the third quarterback off the board following Fernando Mendoza (Las Vegas Raiders, No. 1 overall) and Ty Simpson (Los Angeles Rams, No. 13).

Though the QB position was seen as a need after the departure of Kyler Murray this offseason, the selection of the two-time national champion drew mixed reactions.

Before we get to that, Beck himself said, “Look, my approach to this entire thing is being myself, being the best player I can possibly be and try to take advantage of every single opportunity I am given.”

Reactions to Cardinals drafting Carson Beck

Cardinals veteran linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. posted on X that he’s simply ready to get working with the 6-foot-4 Beck.

One NFL analyst in ESPN’s Matt Miller mocked Beck to Arizona at No. 34 (second round) and another in CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards slotted him at No. 65 after the first round had concluded. However, others were not as keen on the pick.

NFL Stock Exchange co-host Trevor Sikkema literally was left speechless when Beck went off the board when he did. His head drifted straight back and he starred at the ceiling on a live draft show for a solid 15 seconds.

The Athletic’s Dane Bruglar, who pinpointed a few late-round quarterbacks for the Cardinals while on Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta (April 10), was not super complimentary.

“The ceiling is pretty low for him in terms of what he is as an NFL quarterback,” Bruglar said on The Athletic Football Show.

Fans weren’t shy about their immediate feelings toward the selection.

"...are actually doing great with our football players draft.." Besides Paris Johnson, what are you talking about? Monti has not drafted an All-Pro player yet, despite having top ten picks each year. Even a monkey is going to hit on a superstar sooner or later... And Monti has had 3 years to find one. He has failed to do so. IMHO, the Cardinals lack talent and depth. They do not have superstars outside of Tre4 and Buddha, and more importantly, the players 9-53 just are not good enough. That is what Monti built. He has brought all those guys in and the Cards remain talent deficient. He owns that. This draft, so far, is not addressing that. RB? When you have no line? Bisontis can be nice, but he literally the last OL on the Board. Only 2 centers were drafted in the 2nd round, no other guards or tackles. Beck? Why?? You have so many other needs and you take that guy-who never be a starter in the NFL? Why not Payton or Green for a flyer?

Brutally cruel post and way off base!!! It’s nothing more than glorified hate speech of a college football player that is still growing and maturing into the player he will become. Shame on you for your bitterness and inability to let go of your past so you project your failures on these college kids that are pursuing their dreams….

The Athletic’s Dane Buglar doesn’t know what he’s talking about…….. point blank. He’s giving his opinion and it’s flawed. Go back a few drafts and read what he said about Trey Lance and Anthony Richardson ….. he was basically creaming his pants on the tremendously “high ceiling” each of these loser quarterbacks had in the League……….AND he was flat out wrong. He’s had some hits on his diagnoses of new qb’s coming into the League BUT……..this guy is strictly opinionated entertainment and not expert opinion. I’ll take what he says with a drop of sodium chloride and that’s it.
