Fans react to Cardinals QB Kyler Murray’s Instagram scrubbing

Kyler Murray does not follow the Arizona Cardinals on his social media accounts.

This was noticed after the quarterback scrubbed his Instagram account of all but two posts: A photo gallery of his Pro Bowl appearance on Sunday — notably a few with Green Bay Packers staffers — and a 2018 post about his Heisman Trophy win as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners.

It should be pointed out here that he indeed has a Cardinals helmet in the former. So he has not scrubbed his account of all Cardinals things and only Cardinals things. He or his team — busy football players often have managers of their social accounts — deleted all but two posts of branded content, Oklahoma content and personal content as well. Lots of non-Cardinals stuff is now gone.

We’ll also point out that Murray did not delete things from other social media accounts like on Twitter.

He most recently posted about “Texas legend” and Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans, who he connected with at the Pro Bowl.

All that said, fans have not stopped wondering if there are larger implications behind the deletions.

Perhaps it has to do with his contract situation: He’s up for an extension, but Arizona has control of the soon-to-be-fourth-year pro for 2022, plus the fifth-year rookie option for 2023 if general manager Steve Keim chooses to pick that up.

Could it be that Murray is upset at the way the Cardinals stumbled, losing five of six games this season? Does he want change? Let’s point out he tagged the Cardinals on Twitter and tweeted a graphic of himself in Arizona red before the Pro Bowl just last Wednesday.

Or maybe there’s simply business at play.

Last time we checked, Murray shares an agent, Erik Burkhardt, with Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Remember how Kingsbury, who has an expiring contract after 2022, didn’t do the best job of shutting down a report that he could be a candidate for the Oklahoma coaching opening? Remember how it was weird for that report to exist at all?

Alright, enough context. People are still wondering: Does Murray’s social media handling mean nothing? Something?

Here’s what fans are saying about Murray’s deletion of many Instagram posts, and let’s just say there are many ways you can take this:
