Who have the Cardinals interviewed for head coach so far?

The Arizona Cardinals are onto the interviewing process after compiling a hefty list of head-coaching candidates following the firing of Jonathan Gannon the day after the regular season ended.

But who has met with the Cardinals so far?

A timeline of those who have interviewed in some fashion with the Cardinals, plus the other names linked to the job so far.

Cardinals head-coaching interview timeline

Jan. 31 — Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak to interview

The Cardinals are expected to interview Kubiak a second time on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The Las Vegas Raiders are also expected to meet with the OC on the same day.

Kubiak spent two days meeting with Arizona and five others between Jan. 9-10, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

It’s been a big first year as Seahawks OC for Kubiak, who led a top 10 offense (351.4 per game) and was third in points scored (28.4).

He’s now prepping for Super Bowl LX on top of fielding head-coaching interviews.

Before his time in Seattle, Kubiak most recent stops include San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator (2023) and New Orleans Saints OC (2024).

Jan. 27 — Former Commanders, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was interviewed

Rivera was reportedly interviewed in person for the Cardinals’ head-coaching job, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Russini’s Tuesday report did not specify a timing of said interview.

Rivera spent this past year as Cal’s general manager. He last coached an NFL team in 2023.

Before his time with Cal, Rivera was the Commanders head coach from 2020-23. He posted a 26-40-1 record with Washington, winning one NFC East title. It was the Commanders’ lone playoff appearance with Rivera at the helm.

He saw far more success with the Panthers, posting a 76-63-1 mark from 2011-19. The Panthers took home the NFC South title three times under Rivera.

But Rivera’s tenure in Carolina will be most remembered for the Panthers’ run to the Super Bowl in 2015 that include an NFC Championship game win over the Cardinals following a 15-1 regular season.

Jan. 26-27 — Los Angeles Rams OC Mike LaFleur interviews

LaFleur is scheduled to meet with the Cardinals on Monday and Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

LaFleur reportedly went out to dinner with the Cardinals in Phoenix on Monday, and he’ll have his second interview with the team on Tuesday, according toBreer.

The news comes a day after the Rams were eliminated by the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.

This marks LaFleur’s second interview with the team after meeting with Arizona on Jan. 16.

Under LaFleur, who is the brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, L.A. ranked first in total yards (394.6 per game), passing yards (268.1) and points (30.5) this past regular season. Head coach Sean McVay was the Rams’ primary play caller.

LaFleur just wrapped up his third season in L.A. after serving as the New York Jets OC from 2021-22.

Jan. 26 — Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver interviews

Weaver is taking part in a second interview with the Cardinals on Monday, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

The report of a Monday meeting comes after NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said the two sides were expected to meet on Sunday.

He is the second known candidate to have a second interview with the Cardinals, after Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.

Weaver is also a finalist for the Pittsburgh Steelers head coaching job and is interviewing with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

He interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens earlier this month and was among the first coaches the Cardinals requested an interview with, according to Rapoport.

The coach has served as the Dolphins’ DC the past two years. His unit allowed the fourth fewest yards (314.3) and 10th fewest points (21.4) per game in 2024.

Jan. 22 — Jacksonville Jaguars DC Anthony Campanile interviews

Campanile is taking part in a second interview with the Cardinals on Thursday, according to Rapoport.

He is currently the only known candidate taking a second interview with the franchise.

In addition to the Cardinals’ job, Campanile is also in the mix for the Baltimore Ravens’ head-coaching job.

Campanile doesn’t have the longest NFL resume, first cutting his teeth as a Miami Dolphins linebackers coach from 2020-23. He then served as LBs coach and run game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers in 2024 before taking over as Jacksonville’s DC this past season.

He does, however, have some big-time results to go off of in his lone year as Jaguars DC, with Jacksonville ranking first in rushing yards allowed (85.6 per game), 11th in fewest yards allowed (303.6) and eighth in fewest points allowed (19.8).

Jan. 20 — Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady interviews

Brady met with the Cardinals on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Brady also has a second interview slated with Ravens and spoke with both the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, Garafolo adds.

The offensive coordinator just wrapped up his fourth season with Buffalo following the Bill’s divisional playoff loss to the Denver Broncos.

Head coach Sean McDermott was fired not long after the defeat.

This past season, the Bills ranked first in rushing offense (159.6 per game), fourth in total yards (376.3) and tied for fourth in points (28.3).

Brady got his NFL start as an offensive assistant with New Orleans from 2017-18.

He went back to the college ranks in 2019 as LSU’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He took home the Broyles Award for the top college assistant that year and worked closely with now-Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

From there, Brady got back into the NFL as Carolina’s offensive coordinator from 2020-21 before landing with Buffalo.

He started out as a quarterbacks coach (2022-23). Brady then took on interim OC duties in 2023 before getting the interim tag removed in 2024.

Jan. 15 — San Francisco 49ers DC Robert Saleh interviews

Saleh interviewed with the Cardinals on Thursday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, but has since taken the Tennessee Titans’ head-coaching job.

Had he not landed with the Titans, Saleh was expected to have an in-person interview with Arizona, per Rapoport.

Much like LaFleur, Saleh met with Arizona in the middle of his preparation for a divisional round playoff game ahead of San Francisco’s loss to Seattle in the divisional round.

Saleh returned to his post as 49ers defensive coordinator this season. His unit ranked 20th in total defense (340.2 yards per game) and 13th in points allowed (21.8).

Before his second stint with the 49ers and one-year run as a Green Bay Packers offensive consultant, Saleh was the New York Jets’ head coach from 2021-24. He posted a 20-36 mark across four seasons.

He earned that head-coaching role from his time as 49ers DC from 2017-20.

Jan. 14 — Green Bay Packers DC Jeff Hafley interviews

Hafley was hired by the Miami Dolphins as their new head coach on Monday, according to multiple reports, after interviewing for the Cardinals’ head-coaching vacancy.

Hafley served as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator the past two seasons. In 2025, Green Bay ranked 12th in yards per game allowed (311.8) and 11th in points allowed (21.2).

Before his time in Green Bay, Hafley was the head coach at Boston College from 2020-23. He compiled a 22-26 mark during that span.

He now heads to Miami.

Jan. 13 — Los Angeles Chargers DC Jesse Minter interviews

Minter interviewed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, according to Breer, but has since taken the Ravens job.

He just finished his second season as Chargers DC. The L.A. defense allowed the nine fewest points (20) and fifth fewest yards (285.2) per game under Minter.

Minter also has a prior relationship with current Cardinals cornerback Will Johnson, having served as Michigan’s defensive coordinator from 2022-23.

Jan. 12 — Falcons head coach Raheem Morris interviews

Morris had an in-person interview with Arizona a week after his firing as Atlanta Falcons head coach.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday, Morris remains in the mix for the Arizona job but is also expected to have defensive coordinator opportunities if he doesn’t get a head-coaching gig.

Morris posted a 16-18 mark with the Falcons across his two seasons as head coach before his firing.

In addition to Morris’ stint with Atlanta, he was also the lead man for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11. He went 17-31 during those three years.

He also knows the NFC West a little bit, having served as the Rams DC from 2021-23.

Jan. 9 — Kansas City Chiefs OC Matt Nagy interviews

Nagy met with the Cardinals on Friday, according to Garafolo.

Another prior head coach, Nagy posted a 34-31 record and had two playoff appearances with the Chicago Bears from 2018-21.

Most recently, Nagy has spent the past three years with the Chiefs as their OC.

Jan. 6 — Denver Broncos DC Vance Joseph interviews

Joseph interviewed with the Cardinals the same week Arizona moved on from Gannon, according to Schefter.

He is a familiar name to the Cardinals, having served as Arizona’s DC from 2019-22 under ex-head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Joseph also interviewed for the Cardinals’ head-coaching gig in 2023 before Gannon got the job.

Joseph is currently preparing for the AFC championship game with the No. 1 seed Denver Broncos. As Denver’s DC, the Broncos ranked second in total defense (278.2) and third in fewest points allowed (18.3) per game.

Other Cardinals head-coaching candidates

Jan. 14 — Pittsburgh Steelers OC Arthur Smith interview requested

Smith was requested by Arizona on Wednesday, according to Rapoport.

The offensive coordinator just wrapped up his second season in Pittsburgh after serving as Falcons head coach from 2021-23. He went 21-30 during that span.

Jan. 13 — Houston Texans DC Matt Burke interview requested

Burke was requested for a head-coaching interview by the Cardinals on Tuesday, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Burke is in his third season as Texans DC. His unit was tops in the league for total yards (277.2) and second in fewest points allowed (17.4).

Before that, Burke worked as Arizona’s defensive line coach in 2022.

Jan. 11 — Los Angeles Rams DC Chris Shula interview requested

Arizona requested an interview with Shula on Sunday, according to Breer.

Shula has climbed up the defensive ranks in L.A., having started as an assistant linebackers coach (2017-18) before reaching his current role as DC (2024-25).

Jan. 6 — New England Patriots passing game coordinator Thomas Brown interview requested
Arizona early on in their head-coaching search, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

Brown is in his first season as the Patriots’ passing game coordinator and tight ends coach. He’s been a key cog to quarterback Drake Maye’s development as New England prepares for the divisional round of the postseason.
