Isaiah Adams reports to Cardinals training camp days after arrest in Canada

Isaiah Adams reported for Arizona Cardinals training camp that opened Thursday after turning himself in to Canadian police Sunday for gun charges.

Adams was among four arrested following a Guns and Gangs investigation, a specific unit within Durham Regional Police. All were held for a bail hearing.

“He’s doing good,” first-year head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters. “I’m not going to comment too much on that obviously, and I appreciate you guys not really asking the questions with that. But he’s doing good and it was good to see him.”

It was a similar sentiment from center Hjalte Froholdt.

“I’m just happy Isaiah’s here now. … I’m not going to speak for him. I’m just happy he’s here,” Froholdt said.

Toronto-based attorney Adam Weisberg issued the following statement on Wednesday: “Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter — he had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated.”

Adams was born and raised in Ontario, Canada.

Why was Isaiah Adams arrested in Canada?

The investigation concluded on Friday and found a male that was believed to be involved in drug trafficking and in possession of a firearm, per the police report. That suspect and a female were arrested in Ajax, a town within the province of Ontario, in a vehicle that had over three kilograms of fentanyl within it. There was later a search warrant executed at a residence in Pickering, another town in Ontario, where a second female was also arrested without incident.

The loaded firearm was confirmed to be stolen from Georgia in the United States. On Sunday, the fourth suspect, believed to be Adams, turned himself into police, according to the police report.

Adams is charged with possessing a firearm obtained by crime, possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm without a license, possessing a loaded firearm and possessing a prohibited device, per the police report. The firearm in question was a loaded replica Uzi firearm and included a prohibited overcapacity magazine.

Adams is in his third season with the Cardinals after being selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to slot in and emerge as the team’s starting right guard last season, only to struggle with inconsistencies and did not fend off veteran Will Hernandez for the spot. Adams was in a position to be battling with 2026 second-round pick Chase Bisontis for the starting spot in 2026.
