TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love continues to deal with ankle issues early on in his NFL career.
After the rookie was seen limping in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants, head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed the running back has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury.
It is not the same ankle Love sprained during the preseason that led to him sitting out the majority of the exhibitions.
“He’s been dealing with it for a little bit, but it’s just a management-type thing,” LaFleur said Monday. “It’s like he tweaks it and then he feels fine, so we’re just trying to manage that. He’s doing a good job with it, too.”

Love saw a heavy dose of work early on in Sunday’s loss to New York, but his usage petered out as the game went on. Six of his 14 carries and 43 of his 63 yards came in the first quarter alone.
After that, he recorded just eight rushing attempts and one catch (one target) the rest of the way.
His decreased usage was even more glaring late.
Despite having one last gasp at scoring the go-ahead touchdown and sitting on New York’s four-yard line, the Cardinals leaned on Tyler Allgeier and his pass protection for the final four plays of the game.
Love didn’t see the field once.
“It’s been kind of lingering a little bit. Nothing too extreme,” LaFleur told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo. “I just had a good conversation with him about this.
“It’s really just the managing process. I would say Monday through Saturday and getting to Sunday, he just kind of felt it a little bit yesterday and I think that’s why you saw kind of a 50-50 split (in carries).”
Through four games (three starts), Love has recorded 55 carries for 223 yards and a touchdown. He’s also caught 11 passes (13 targets) for 36 yards and a score.
