Sando: Drafting Jeremiyah Love was Cardinals’ best offseason move

The Arizona Cardinals’ drafting of running back Jeremiyah Love with the No. 3 overall pick wasn’t without some criticism given the positional value and holes elsewhere on the roster.
The Athletic’s Mike Sando, however, sees the addition of the young running back as the team’s best move this offseason.
Adding excitement to a team that didn’t have any
The Cardinals’ decision to select running back Jeremiyah Love at No. 3 gives the organization something it hasn’t had since the early days of Kyler Murray: a reason to watch the offense. The Cardinals need star power and got it with Love. The lectures about positional value can wait for another day.
Love quickly becomes a top weapon for first-year head coach Mike LaFleur to weave into his offensive scheme.
On top of his abilities as a runner, Love also prides himself on being a pass catcher. Arizona was even seen experimenting with him as a return man during last week’s organized team activities.
The rookie is coming off a career year at Notre Dame where he rushed for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns on 199 carries. It marked the second straight season of at least 1,125 yards and 17 scores for Love.
He added 280 yards and three touchdowns on 27 catches.
Love, however, isn’t the only reason to tune into the Cardinals offense. Tight end Trey McBride is coming off a record-setting season and enters 2026 as one of the top tight ends in the game.
Wide receiver Michael Wilson is also coming off a career year in which he showed flashes of WR1 traits.

Their offense is loaded. They’re going to have a top 5 run game and a top 10 offense overall if they can get one of these QBs to play atleast at the level Jacoby did last season. Beck might be good, and they have the infrastructure offensively for him to have a lot of success early in this system which is tailor made for his strengths with the weapons and run game he will have to lean on.
I've seen this movie before. Its a rerun every year with our #1 pick. Potential, might be, good ethics....KTAR and the media selling that special water. Call it gun shy because we have been burnt more than we have had success with high draft picks.
