Love is now just the seventh player and third running back since 2015 to score a rushing touchdown on the opening drive of his NFL career.
There was a healthy split between Love and veteran Tyler Allgeier to kick off the day for the Cardinals offense.
Allgeier got most of the work to start, including a five-yard catch, before Love finished things off with the score.
The veteran and rookie split six touches that opening drive.
The Chargers wasted little time answering back the very next possession behind a nine-yard touchdown run from running back Omarion Hampton.
That would be the extent of the Chargers’ first-half scoring, though, with a fumble and turnover on downs impacting their operation.
Arizona added a pair of field goals to take a 13-7 lead into halftime.
