Jeremiyah Love (still) RB2? Cardinals Week 1 depth chart takeaways

Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love was not included with the first-team offense on the unofficial Week 1 depth chart released Tuesday.

The Cardinals’ Week 1 depth chart is out.

Quick thoughts:

– Jeremiyah Love still slotted as RB2

– Darius Robinson backing up Dante Stills

– No “or” between Roy Lopez and Big Bill

Instead, that role (at least on paper) belongs to veteran Tyler Allgeier, who was initially signed as Arizona’s RB1 before the Cardinals nabbed Love with the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

For the entirety of training camp and the preseason, Love has been listed behind Allgeier. And with the rookie still “progressing” from his high ankle sprain to start the week, why fully reveal all the cards before you have to?

“We feel good with where he’s progressed to and we’ll have a better idea with him … (Wednesday),” LaFleur told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Tuesday.

There’s likely some gamesmanship at play here, too.

Because if Love is good to go like many expect, he’s going to factor into Arizona’s offense regardless of his spot on the depth chart.

Where is D-Rob?

If you’re looking for Darius Robinson in the starting lineup, you won’t find him (at least on the depth chart).

Dante Stills — not Robinson — is starting alongside Roy Lopez and Walter Nolen III.

This was already a big season for Robinson, who has yet to live up to his first-round price tag in 2024.

“I wouldn’t look too much … into the D-line. The best teams I’ve been a part of that’s just a big ol’ rotation,” LaFleur said. “We think we have a really deep defensive line and that’s a good thing. It’s no different than in basketball with a guy coming off the bench and being a top scorer.

“He did some really good stuff, particularly in the run game. We know he’s powerful enough to help us in the pass game and pressuring the quarterback.”

But even with the rotational nature of Arizona’s defensive line, Robinson not being among the starters is notable.

Time is running out on him, and a fifth-year option decision looms in the not-so-distant future.

Garrett Williams not a starter?

Cornerback Garrett Williams has been a key piece to Arizona’s defense since coming to Arizona in 2023.

Take a look at Tuesday’s depth chart, though, and he’s listed behind the trio of starting cornerbacks.

Instead of Williams getting the nod, it’s Will Johnson, Denzel Burke and Max Melton ahead of him.

It’s likely only a matter of time before that changes, though.

While Williams was able to come off the active/physically unable to perform list during the preseason, there are still a couple more boxes to check.

“He’s another one that’s going to go into the weekend and stuff like that and not making too many decisions right away,” LaFleur said. “We want to see where he’s at. We love where he’s progressed. … For him to even be in this conversation about playing five days from now is incredible.

“We’re not far. You’re hoping Sunday can be it, but I know we’re not far nonetheless.”
