Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to miss his second straight game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Thursday.
The No. 3 overall pick has been dealing with a lingering left ankle issue that kept him out of last week’s 18-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He was a nonparticipant in practice on Wednesday, as head coach Mike LaFleur said he won’t put Love back on the field until he is 100% good to go.
This is not the same injury as Love’s right ankle sprain that he suffered in the preseason, which LaFleur has said healed.
Love leads the Cardinals in carries this season with 67 over five games played after he was drafted out of Notre Dame as a potential generational running back prospect.
In his absence last weekend, the Cardinals balanced Tyler Allgeier (18 carries) and Bam Knight (15 carries) in the run game, with Knight standing out with 80 rushing yards and 18 additional receiving yards.
The Cardinals take on the Broncos at 1:05 p.m. MST on Sunday.
The game will air on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
