Report: Seahawks agree to sign Jamal Adams to record deal for a safety

Jamal Adams has agreed to a record contract extension for an NFL safety and will ink a four-year, $70 million contract to remain with the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The deal has $38 million guaranteed, reports Rapoport, but the potential total dwarfs the previous record deals for safeties that were signed recently.

The Denver Broncos this March agreed on a $61 million deal with Justin Simmons, which slightly ticked past Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker’s deal worth $59 million.

Arizona agreed to that contract extension last August. While the deal doesn’t kick in until this season, the 25-year-old Baker lived up to the contract in 2020, recording 118 tackles with two sacks and two interceptions.

Adams, 25, was traded from the New York Jets to the Seahawks last offseason. He appeared in 12 games in 2020, posting 83 total tackles with a career-high 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

His new deal keeps him under contract with Seattle through the 2025 season.

Adams has made First Team All-Pro once in 2019 and Second Team All-Pro in 2018 and 2020.
