Black Monday has arrived in the NFL, and it’s looking like the Arizona Cardinals will be searching for a new head coach for the second straight offseason.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Monday morning that head coach Steve Wilks won’t be back for a second season in 2019, although nothing official has come from team management.

The Cardinals finished up 3-13 after a 27-24 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at CenturyLink Field. The three wins tied a franchise-low since the NFL expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978. The 2000 Cardinals also went 3-13 during a season in which they fired head coach Vince Tobin and finished up with interim Dave McGinnis at the helm.

Wilks was asked following Sunday’s game whether or not he felt he deserved to come back next season, and was definitive with his answer.

“Of course I do,” he responded.

Wilks, in his first year as an NFL head coach, spent the previous six seasons on the coaching staff of the Carolina Panthers, serving as defensive backs coach, assistant head coach and defensive coordinator in his time there.
