Arizona Cardinals reveal sand-themed Rivalries uniform

The Arizona Cardinals revealed their new Nike Rivalries uniform on Thursday, much to the chagrin of Anakin Skywalker.

The sandblasted uniform includes hints of copper, wingtip numbering and shoulder patches that feature the Arizona state flag and outline of the state.

The back of the sand-themed helmet also includes a nod to the state flag. Can’t forget about the copper beak on the Cardinals logo or the red facemask, either.

“We are thrilled to be part of the new Rivalries program and thank the NFL and Nike for including us in this inaugural group,” owner Michael Bidwill said in a press release. “The design elements of the Cardinals Rivalries uniforms reflect the strength and toughness required to thrive in the desert and celebrate the passion and perseverance that define us.

“Coincidentally, a couple days ago so many people saw the power, speed and ferocity of the Arizona sandstorm that is such an integral part of our Rivalries uniform design and a fitting metaphor for our identity as a team and a region. When we wear these Rivalries uniforms for the first time … I hope Cardinals fans see them as a true embodiment of our team, our fan base and the spirit of Arizona that we proudly represent.”

When will Cardinals debut new Rivalries uniform?

Arizona will debut the new look against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Week 4.

Seattle is also a part of the Rivalries program and will debut its uniform during a home game against an NFC West foe this year.

After the debut, the new threads will stay in the uniform rotation for three years.

The Cardinals and Seahawks mark two of eight teams taking part in the Rivalries program in 2025.

The others are the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams and the entirety of the AFC East.

Next year, the AFC South and NFC North will get their Rivalries threads. The NFC East and AFC West receive theirs in 2027, with the AFC North and NFC South rounding out the release in 2028.

According to the NFL, the Nike Rivalries uniforms feature “designs rooted in extensively in local community insights.”
