Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a quad injury, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Wednesday.

With Darnold sidelined, Drew Lock is in line to start against the Cardinals. Lock is dealing with an elbow injury, but Macdonald expects Lock to be ready for Sunday’s tilt.

Macdonald said Darnold injured his quad during the end of the Seahawks’ Monday night loss to the Chicago Bears. The Seattle coach said the injury is “week-to-week” and the signal caller will not be going on IR.

Darnold also suffered a rib injury earlier in Seattle’s Week 8 loss to the Bears on Monday. Macdonald said Darnold cracked his rib on the second play of Monday’s game and is “as tough as nails,” as the quarterback remained in the game.

Lock started two games earlier this year, including a 31-7 win for the Seahawks over the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. Against the Cardinals, Lock was 19 of 26 and threw for 235 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

“The plan is for Drew to start,” Macdonald told reporters. “Jalen (Milroe) will be ready to backup. Drew’s still working back from his elbow, so we’ll work through that process this week, so we’ll be getting both guys ready to play.

“We’ve got full confidence in those guys and we have a plan in place.”
