Sean Murphy-Bunting, the Arizona Cardinals’ starting cornerback, was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, ending his 2025 season, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Murphy-Bunting started in 15 games last year, his first with Arizona after stops with Tampa Bay (2019-22) and Tennessee (2023).
He accumulated 52 tackles with two forced fumbles and three picks, plus five passes defensed.
The roster move that hit the wire Thursday leaves the Cardinals with a younger group of corners, led by slot man Garrett Williams, who as a second-year player recorded 58 tackles with nine passes defensed and two picks in 2024.
What’s the depth chart look like for the Cardinals at CB after losing Sean Murphy-Bunting?
Second-round draft pick Will Johnson’s path toward immediate playing time now gets clearer with Murphy-Bunting’s injury, but there is additional depth of players who have a chance to win playing time.
From last year, Arizona returns Starling Thomas V, who played in 17 games as a second-year pro and closed with 47 tackles and six passes defensed.
2024 draft pick Max Melton could vie for playing time after making three starts and finishing with 51 tackles and five passes defensed as a rookie.
Third-year cornerback Kei’Trel Clark has played plenty over his first two years, while second-year man and third-round pick Elijah Jones will give it another go after injury kept him from playing last year.

We Will survive this
He’s 6’2” so that part of it he can handle.
Bunting wasn't that good to begin with. Feel bad about the injury but he can be replaced. If he was their best corner I would be worried. But a vet can come in, not a big deal
