Cardinals training camp takeaways: Jacoby Brissett struggles, and where is Trey Benson?
Since his return to the Arizona Cardinals' first-team offense, Jacoby Brissett turned in his worst day of training camp practice on Sunday.

GLENDALE — Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur called Friday’s training camp practice Arizona’s best yet.
That’s probably not the feeling after Sunday’s showing.
The first-team offense struggled to find much consistency, highlighted by a down day from quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
The veteran signal-caller could not find a consistent rhythm throughout 11-on-11 work, ending the day with a pair of interceptions and a handful of errant balls after not turning the rock over once since returning to the first-team unit.

Yes, it’s camp practice more than a month out from Week 1, but still not what you want to see, especially coming off the reworked contract that now pays as the team’s starter.
On the flip side, inside linebacker Cody Simon is up to two interceptions in camp after snagging one of Brissett’s throws intended for Marvin Harrison Jr.
Sean Murphy-Bunting came down with the other.
The biggest positive from Brissett was his continued connection with tight end Trey McBride. The duo linked up numerous times on Sunday.

The offensive issues weren’t just on Brissett, though, with Arizona’s offensive line finding little movement up front. This is becoming more of a trend as camp progresses.
Jeremiyah Love RB2 on the depth chart but RB1 during Sunday’s practice
Arizona did what I expected them to do with rookie running back Jeremiyah Love: Make him RB2 on the first official depth chart.
That’s what the optics have been all camp. Tyler Allgeier has gotten first crack with the first-team offense before Love works his way in with the unit.
Sunday, however, the pecking order was different than what the depth chart read.
Love — not Allgeier — was out there first before giving way to Allgeier.
The two split series to start 11-on-11 while intermingling with the second-team unit as well.
That feels closer to what we might see when the regular season shows up.
Where is Cardinals RB Trey Benson?
Walter Nolen III made his way back to the field on Sunday after leaving early the practice prior with a knee issue.
As the second-year pro said before practice, he’s “great” and seemed just fine back out there with the first-team defense.
Instead, the big absent question mark belongs to running back Trey Benson.
Benson, who was seen during Friday’s practice but didn’t participate in team drills, was nowhere to be seen on Sunday.
Asked about injuries before practice, LaFleur did not mention Benson as someone dealing with something.
Before the recent development, Benson had slowly made his way back into team drills, flashing his burst on Wednesday.

There’s no denying Benson’s spot on the roster is in jeopardy with Love, Allgeier and James Conner expected to lead the room. Benson’s RB4 status on the first depth chart of the season only solidifies that thinking.
Maybe he’s dealing with something injury-wise, but there’s also trade (or even cut) potential to consider here.
Arizona is moving in a different direction, and it does not appear to include Benson.
His presence moving forward is going to be something to watch for sure.
There goes Eku Leota… again
Leota continues to make his presence felt. On Sunday, the linebacker subbed in with the first-team defense and immediately put pressure on Brissett.
He, along with wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette — who is the next man up in both return games — have been a couple of the biggest standouts from those further down the depth chart.
Chase Bisontis getting some first-team run
Bisontis has taken over sparingly for Isaac Seumalo this camp.
That was on display Sunday, with Bisontis stepping in for Seumalo a few times.
The rookie still has a long way to go but getting some first-team run should help build his confidence. The more reps, the better.
