Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland dead at 24

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland died Thursday morning from what police officials said appeared to be a suicide.

The Frisco Police Department said Texas Department of Public Safety officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Thursday evening, but it fled and troopers lost sight of it.

It was later found crashed and abandoned, but an ensuing search led to a man identified as Kneeland found dead “from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police said.

“Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization,” a Cowboys statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”

Kneeland played 20 snaps and recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown on Monday in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The 24-year-old was a second-round pick (56th overall) by Dallas in 2024 out of Western Michigan.

“I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night,” read a statement from his agent, Jonathan Perzley. “I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys.

“Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words. My heart aches for his family, his teammates and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time. I ask that you please give his loved ones the privacy and compassion they need as they grieve this tremendous loss.”
