Former Arizona State star Jordyn Tyson returned to New Orleans Saints practice this week for the first time since a preseason hamstring injury.
Tyson was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice on the Saints’ injury report as New Orleans comes out of its bye week with a matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
“It seems to be a little bit of a stretch” that Tyson would play this week, Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.
“This was his first opportunity to be out there with the team, so it was good to see him,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Wednesday. “Good to get him out there for a limited capacity. We’ll just see how this whole week goes. Again, it was just good to see him at least.”
Tyson injured his right hamstring in a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 13, two days before the Saints’ preseason opener against the Jaguars. The eighth-overall draft pick began his rookie season on injured reserve.
While the injury was on the same right hamstring that Tyson injured last season at ASU, Moore said he doesn’t believe the two injuries are connected.
“My understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot kind of slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn’s history,” Moore told reporters at the time. “Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this.”
The wide receiver had 136 catches for 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns in 21 games over his last two seasons at ASU (2024-25), earning first-team All-Big 12 honors in both seasons.
He dealt with several injuries over his college career, including multiple knee surgeries before a broken collarbone prematurely ended his 2024 season. His 2025 season was marred by a hamstring injury that kept him out of three games and limited him to four combined catches over two other contests.
