Arizona Coyotes center Nick Schmaltz was placed on the injured-reserve list with a week-to-week lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.
This announcement came shortly after the Coyotes recalled center Laurent Dauphin from the Tucson Roadrunners.
Schmaltz was acquired by the Coyotes in late November from the Chicago Blackhawks for Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini. In 17 games since the trade, Schamltz 14 points for Arizona.
It’s another piece of bad luck for the injury-plagued Coyotes.
Head coach Rick Tocchet spoke about the issues caused by players missing so much time with 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station on Wednesday.
“It’s hard to find continuity [because of the injuries],” he said. “It’s almost like every game, you come in and you’re told you’re not going to have this guy and it’s tough.”
Coming into the season, the Coyotes were a popular pick to be a playoff sleeper, but they haven’t been able to live up to those expectations with their record at 17-21-2.
