Coyotes prospect Dylan Guenther scores a ‘Michigan’ to complete hat trick

Coyotes prospect Dylan Guenther scored a "Michigan" goal to complete a hat-trick in minor league action on Sunday night.

It’s been a rough season for the Arizona Coyotes, but help could be on the way soon.

That could come in the form of 2021 first-round draft pick Dylan Guenther who captured the attention of the hockey world by scoring a “Michigan” goal to complete a hat trick for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.

Guenther is second on the Oil Kings in points this season with 62 in 41 games played. He leads the team with 32 goals.

Only three players have scored lacrosse-style goals in the NHL. Anaheim Ducks rookie Trevor Zegras scored one earlier this season against the Montreal Canadiens.

Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes and Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators have also successfully tallied scores in the “Michigan” style.

The shot was dubbed the “Michigan” in 1996 when Mike Legg scored in a similar fashion in an NCAA Tournament game against Minnesota while playing for the Michigan Wolverines.
