Following the Sun Devils’ upset over No. 24 Oregon, ASU freshman place kicker Brandon Ruiz has won Pac-12 Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Ruiz was 3-for-3 on Saturday night in field goal attempts and was 4-for-4 in PATs. ASU went on to win 37-35. His longest field goal was for 41 yards, which came with 2:33 to go in the fourth quarter and was the game’s deciding score.

He also kicked an onside kick, which the Sun Devils recovered.

Ruiz, of Williams Field High School in Gilbert, replaced Zane Gonzalez this season as the Sun Devils’ kicker. Gonzalez won the 2016 Lou Groza Award, given to the top kicker in college football, and went on to become the Cleveland Browns’ seventh-round draft selection.

Also receiving nominations in this week’s Pac-12 Football Players of the Week were ASU quarterback Manny Wilkins and linebacker Alani Latu.

ASU’s next game is on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as they go on the road to face the Stanford Cardinal.
