Cote, who earned the starting role this offseason has never started a game for the Sun Devils.
True freshman Dohnovan West will start in his place.
West, the 6-foot-3 277 lbs lineman out of Mission Hills, California, was listed as the ninth overall offensive center prospect in the country by 24/7 Sports.
The freshman’s start means the Sun Devils will now have a true freshman snapping to a true freshman, as Jayden Daniels will be ASU’s starting quarterback Thursday versus Kent State.
This will be the first time a true freshman starts at quarterback to open the season for the Sun Devils.
