Following a training camp in which Antti Raanta missed time with a lower-body injury, the Arizona Coyotes have sent the goaltender to Tucson for some conditioning reps.

The move comes prior to the team’s season-opener in Anaheim. Goaltender Adin Hill was recalled in Raanta’s absence. Darcy Kuemper and Eric Comrie are also on the NHL roster.

When talking about Comrie, whom the Coyotes claimed off waivers, Chayka said Tuesday that Raanta would need to get back into game shape.

“Obviously Antti hasn’t played a lot of games in the last 10, 11 months,” Chayka said. “So as he’s getting up to speed and getting back to where we know he can get to, this just gives us another option.”

Raanta’s conditioning loan is in accordance with the league CBA, which stipulates that teams can send a player to a minor league club at their consent for no longer than 14 days.

The Roadrunners’ first game is on Friday at the Texas Stars. They have three games total in the two weeks that Raanta is eligible to remain on a conditioning loan.
