The Arizona Coyotes made a roster move on Thursday, sending defenseman Kyle Capobianco to the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL.
No corresponding move was announced, which could bode well for fellow defenseman Jordan Oesterle. Oesterle has been on injured reserve after taking a puck off the back of the head in a win over the Nashville Predators on Oct. 17.
The Coyotes announced placing Oesterle on injured reserve on IR on Oct. 19. Players must stay on IR for a minimum of seven days, but teams often can backdate these moves to the “onset of such injury,” as stipulated by the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Either way, he’s eligible to come off IR when he’s ready.
Arizona has a couple days off before a Saturday home game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Capobianco has bounced between the NHL and AHL in roster moves this season but has appeared in six games for the Coyotes, scoring one goal — the first of his NHL career. He’s averaged 13:48 per game.
Most recently, Capobianco has been a healthy scratch while Aaron Ness has gotten some playing time. Playing time has been available for depth defensemen as Oesterle and Niklas Hjalmarsson (lower-body injury) have been injured.
