He may have been snubbed from the NFL’s Top 100, but Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones won’t be denied a Pro Bowl selection.
Safety Budda Baker also got a starting nod like Jones while quarterback Kyler Murray, kicker Zane Gonzalez and special teamer Dennis Gardeck were named alternates.
The sack machine Jones was selected to the 2019 Pro Bowl on Tuesday after putting together yet another solid season. It’s the third Pro Bowl selection for Jones.
Jones has continued to cause issues for opposing quarterbacks in 2019, recording at least 0.5 sacks in all but three games and setting a new career-high with four against the New York Giants in Week 7. All told, he sits at 15 sacks, adding 45 tackles, 16 of which were for losses, three passes defensed and forced six fumbles.
Among the NFL sack leaders, only Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ LB Shaquil Barrett has had a better season up to this point, posting 16.5 sacks.
Jones represents one of the most consistent athletes in the NFL, recording double-digit sack totals in all but two seasons. His best year came in 2017, when Jones posted 17 sacks. Already up to 15 sacks this season, Jones looks poised to tie or even surpass his career high with two games left on the team’s schedule.
Baker earns his second Pro Bowl selection after making it for his play on special teams as a rookie in 2017. He leads all defensive backs in tackles with 125 through 14 games and his 92 solo tackles rank second.
Baker is the first player in franchise history to make it as a special teamer and position player while he is the eighth safety to be selected, the first since Adrian Wilson in 2011.
The Pro Bowl kicks off on Jan. 26 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
